FAQs for Parents

Questions parents often ask.

What happens in a first session?

The first session is a relaxed conversation to get to know your child and understand what's going on for them. Sanet will also chat with you as the parent, so together you can set clear, comfortable goals for the sessions ahead.

Is everything my child shares confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality and professional boundaries are core to Sanet's practice. The only exception is if there is a risk of harm to your child or someone else, in which case it's always discussed with you as the parent first, wherever possible.

How long are sessions, and how often do we come?

Sessions typically run for 50 minutes. Frequency depends on your child's needs — many families start with weekly sessions and space these out over time.

What age groups do you work with?

Sanet works with children through to teenagers, and has particular experience supporting learners with developmental delays, learning differences and special needs.

Can I stay in the room during my child's session?

This is worked out together based on your child's age and comfort. Younger children may prefer a parent nearby at first, while older children and teens often benefit from private space to open up.

How do I know if my child needs counselling?

If your child seems withdrawn, anxious, is struggling with a big life change, or you simply feel they could use extra support, that's reason enough to reach out. You don't need a diagnosis to book a first session.
